Best Seasons for Ayurvedic Treatment

If one goes by the most believed and followed traveling fact- travelers should visit the southern part of India between October to May. But, we don’t agree as every month here has its own charm and complements the beauty around in its unique way. South India, with its rich diversity, preserved wildlife spaces, majestic mountains, and mesmerizing natural wonders, is all seasons’ favorite. Every season here has its benefits. Like, if one is seeking a relaxing, calm, and rejuvenating Ayurveda treatment, then there can be no better season than monsoon.

Monsoon is a synonym for freshness and calmness. It gives new life to the dried-up greenery that has suffered the harshness of summer’s sun, refreshes the weather, and washes away all the dirt from the leaves. Result- a fresh and rejuvenated earth. On the other hand, Ayurveda is a treatment of one’s body using herbs and oils. It soothes the agitated nerves, detoxes the body, calms the uneasiness, and leaves the benefactor energized, fresh, and rejuvenated. After days of stress, anxiety, and discomfort, Ayurvedic treatments are powerful enough to let one de-stress, unwind, and rejuvenate, just like the freshly washed earth after the monsoon showers. So what can be a better season to enjoy an Ayurveda retreat than monsoon?

Monsoon brings a massive change in the temperature, and our body’s requirements also change. Our immune system weakens, and we become more prone to illness. This is the season to be more careful. It’s time to enjoy warm soups, herbs added to bland food that are easily digestible, and regular oil massage. Cooked vegetables and pulses should be preferred over raw salads. It’s the season to bring our body and the outside weather in alignment.

Ayurveda is one of the oldest medicinal treatments practiced in India. It believes in healing the body using the natural herbs present around us and changing our food habits. There are days of fasting observed as per the season. The use of ingredients also varies depending on the climate. Monsoon, for example, affects our digestion process; thus, people fast on many days in the months, including Sravana or Shawan giving a break to our gut to adapt. When the weather outside is a bit chilly and moist, the food becomes soupier, thus creating a balance between the body and nature. Ayurveda believes that our ill health results from the imbalance in our internal energies and its loss of alignment with nature’s energies. These imbalances affect our immune system, and our metabolism becomes more sluggish. They may trigger certain diseases, too, like spondylitis, neurological pains, arthritis, etc. Skin infections like rashes, eczema, and boils can also occur. These imbalances, called the doshas, are ministered through Ayurveda using changes in the diet and through the use of therapies like panchakarma.

So when the rain might stop travelers from exploring the outside world, the Ayurveda retreat is the best choice for a relaxing break. Instead of postponing the vacation, it’s one of the best time to let the body have relaxing therapies where food and medicine combine to detoxify us inside out.
